Electrolysis: Permanent Hair Removal

Preparation & Aftercare

Electrolysis is the process of electrolysis begins by inserting a small metal probe into the hair follicle.

Using state-of-the-art technology, a minimum amount of current is gently applied to the base of the hair follicle cauterizing the the areas that generate hair.

Electrolysis uses galvanic current, thermolysis, or blend methods to remove the hair.

The regenerative ability of the hair follicle is permanently eliminated.

Achieving the best results with electrolysis requires some time. Hairs have a growth cycle of sixteen weeks. This must be taken into consideration when creating a treatment plan.

Most clients state that while receiving electrology they experience only slight discomfort.

Preparation: Before Your Appointment

Your pre-treatment attitude, both mental and physical, will influence your treatment session and proper post-treatment or aftercare will facilitate more effective results.

Practice good hygiene. Be sure to wash the area that is to be treated before leaving for your appointment. Clean skin reduces the risk of irritation.

WASH YOUR HAIR before your appointment if the hairline or nape is to be treated.

BATHE THOUROUGHLY for body treatment, wash the area that is to be treated before leaving for your appointment.

DO NOT APPLY PRODUCTS (lotions, oils, makeup or deodorant) to the areas being treated.

AVOID RUSHING the day of your appointment. Rushing makes you tense and more sensitive to treatment. Arrive for your appointment at least ten minutes before your scheduled time. This will give you time to relax before your treatment.

AVOID CAFFEINE on the day of your appointment.

Aftercare: Home Care Instructions

Depending on individual skin type, you may display redness and swelling following treatment. This is normal. This is temporary and will disappear 30 minutes to one hour after treatment with proper aftercare. Please do not touch, squeeze, rub or scratch the treated area.

If needed, you may apply ice wrapped in plastic or individual ice packs to the affected area. Ice will reduce swelling, redness and discomfort.

Keep the treated area clean. Do not apply makeup, oils, lotions or deodorant to the treatment area for at least 24 hours.

If any small scabs should appear, do not scrub or remove them. These must heal thoroughly and without interference.

Blot the area lightly with an antiseptic such as Sea Breeze, Bactine, 70% rubbing alcohol or Witch Hazel, with clean 100% cotton. Do this 3-4 times per day for three days.

Applying 100% Aloe Vera will soothe the skin and promote faster healing.

Avoid exposure to the sun. If you must be in the sun and can't completely shade the area with clothing or a hat, use a sun block of at least SPF #15. After application of sun block, be sure to cleanse the skin thoroughly, but gently, when you come in from the sun. Use a skin cleanser such as Phisoderm, Cetaphil or Neutrogena.

To avoid skin-on-skin friction in and around the bikini line and underarms, after cleansing the area as instructed above, you may apply an antiseptic powder such as Gold Bond or Medicated Baby Powder.

If pustules appear, apply hydrogen peroxide to the affected area at least three times during the first 24 hours. For individuals with folliculitis, apply warm water and Epsom salt compresses to relieve the discomfort and extract inflammation.

Hot tubs, saunas or swimming pools should be avoided for two to four days following treatment.
